Comme toutes les grandes villes les quartiers se transforment et l’on retrouve des commerces de luxe et des galeries d’art dans les anciens immeubles de briques d’un ancien quartier modeste.
J’aime ces immeubles de brique et de glace, d’acier et de bois. Ces mélanges en architecture qui gardent un aspect humain, les immeubles ne sont pas les gratte-ciel modernes de Manhattan, et chaleureux par les couleurs de la brique.
J’aime aussi l’incongruité de ces magasins chics et galeries d’art installés dans ces anciens immeubles d’artisans ou d’ouvriers. Un mixte entre Dickens et les Kardashians.
Ce tableau reflète l’atmosphère entre ombre et lumière, au sens propre et figuré. Comme le tableau, la ville est façonnée de milliers de taches de couleurs qui se superposent, représentant les humains qui la composent et forment une harmonie parfois bancale.
Les lignes droites penchent, la perspective n’est pas respectée, mais que serait la vie si tout était droit et parfait ?

Like all major cities, neighbourhoods transform, and luxury shops and art galleries now occupy the old brick buildings of what was once a modest district.
I love these buildings of brick and glass, steel and wood. These architectural blends retain a human scale; they are not Manhattan’s modern skyscrapers, and the warm tones of the brick give them a sense of warmth.
I also love the incongruity of these chic boutiques and art galleries set up in former artisans’ or workers’ buildings. A mix of Dickens and the Kardashians.
This painting reflects an atmosphere suspended between shadow and light, in both the literal and the figurative sense. Like the painting, the city is shaped by thousands of overlapping patches of colour, representing the people who compose it and form a quite unsteady harmony.
The straight lines tilt, perspective is not respected—but what would life be if everything were straight and perfect?
