Un petit commerce de bord de route, en Louisiane. Sur ce commerce il y a un écriteau « Closed for duration » qui fait référence à sa fermeture pendant la seconde guerre mondiale.
Etaient-ce des jeunes américains qui sont partis à la guerre en Europe ? En sont-ils revenus ?
Toute l’histoire d’une vie, d’une famille, que je ne connais pas, se passe derrière ce panneau…
Puisque cette photo était en noir et blanc, je me suis inspirée des couleurs du film « Bagdad café » pour imaginer ce petit commerce de bord de route dans un coin de Louisiane.
Ce tableau est à la fois un voyage dans le temps et dans l’espace.

Were they young American gone to war in Europe? Did they come back to their country?
There are so many questions unanswered about this painting.
This painting is both a trip in the past and a trip abroad.
Painted from a black and white photograph taken at that time and kept at the Library of Congress.
Because the original photograph was in black and white, I was inspired by the 1987 movie “Bagdad café”. I could imagine the yellowish colours of the sky and the road, almost white, the heat and the shadows.
