Camden Market: Le marché des « puces » de Camden, au nord de Londres
Ses couleurs, ses odeurs de cuir et de de bois mélangé.
C’est un marché coloré, une ambiance particulière. On y trouve des vinyls, des vêtements et de quoi se restaurer.
C’est un souvenir de Londres, particulier en ces temps de repli sur soi.

Camden market: The flea market in London.

In an century where everything is changing, and changing quickly, there are still some places where nothing has changed: a thing of the past in a middle of a very modern and moving city: London.

There, you can buy vinyl’s from the seventies, dress with forties’ skirts and jackets and listen to sixties’ music.

There is a special atmosphere for treasure hunters, smells of wood and leather.
Outside there are smells of fish and chips and curry that invite you to travel in others parts of the world.
It’s a time machine…

This painting is a feel god painting a painting of a comfortable atmosphere where you are cut from the violence and the problems of the world.

The warm colors of the lamps give the atmosphere a nice cosiness. I put a first layer of red-orange colours on which i painted the details of the painting. This first layer gives a warm touch to the painting.

It’s a feel good painting: I played with warm colours to give a nice feeling of nostalgy

New-York corner

Dans la série New-yorkaise, voici le dernier tableau de la période post-confinement.
La ville, les immeubles, dans lesquels j’ai vécu pendant très longtemps, ont un caractère singulier pour moi. Je ne considère pas ces immeubles comme des entités matérielles mais comme des moments de vie de l’humain: derrière ces murs se cachent des secrets, des familles vivent, s’aiment ou se disputent.
Dans la série de New-York je fais l’opposition entre les immeubles de briques qui représentent, pour moi, les immeubles des travailleurs, des immigrants, avec les immeubles de verre et d’acier, symboles de la réussite, des affaires et de l’argent des « white collars »: on dirait des hommes d’affaires en France.
J’ai pour habitude de remplir tous mes tableaux, parfois jusqu’à un sentiment d’enfermement comme la dernière série londonienne sur le confinement avec ce ciel lourd et ces immeubles de pierre et de brique rouge sang ancrés dans le sol.
dans cette peinture post- confinement; j’ai recouvert l’immeuble de morceaux de ciel comme un symbol d’ouverture, de plus de légèreté même si l’ambiance est encore lourde. Les couleurs violentes qui s’affrontent sont le symbole d’un post-confinement, tourné vers le ciel et le futur, oui, mais encore très ancré dans le présent plein d’incertitude.

Brick and mortar building in New-York, symbol of the old parts of the city.
The way I see it is the opposition between the brick n’ mortar buildings which are for me the symbol of workers, of immigrants that came to New-York to find a new life, and the glass n’ iron buildings symbol of success and money of white collars.

These buildings are not only object, they are alive; they represent the people that live in. They represent the life of people. Between their walls, there are secrets not to be shared.
Especially in this period of lock-down, quarantine or self-isolation: the building, the house is where you actually live : you live inside the walls. These walls are alive from the people living in.
I have a tendency to fill in every parts of the canvas, sometimes, like in my last « London series of Brick n’ mortar » the feeling is that of oppression, of enferment like what I felt during the self-isolation in France.

In this painting I ‘ve painted the sky over the building as a sign of freedom, as if the building was liberating itself from the lock-down period of sanitary crisis in the world. It’s a post traumatic painting, yet, one cheerful, colourful and turned toward the future.

At FRIENDS’: Chez FRIENDS (la série TV): Il s’agit de l’immeuble dans lequel les amis de la série télévisée Friends est tourné.
On peut supposer que le restaurant au pied de l’immeuble est le célèbre « Central Perk » café qui recevait les habitants de l’immeuble pour un cappuccino…
Ce tableau est aussi et surtout le dernier de la série « post-confinement »: il est plus gai, plus coloré, le soleil d’automne tombe sur l’immeuble et le baigne d’une douce lumière.
C’est un tableau apaisé qui laisse entrevoir l’idée future d’une série sans doute plus colorée; plus libre et plus douce.

Lockdown Harrington gardens : Confinement à Harrington gardens; Londres (Quartier de Kensington sud)
La dernière de la série des oeuvres de confinement:

Encore une fois, on sent dans cette peinture la force de l’idée d’emprisonnement que ressent le peintre pendant cette période particulière
Ce n’est pas une oeuvre joyeuse, même si Londres est ma ville de coeur, ici, c’est un ressenti de la douleur, de cette crise qui s’est abattue sur le monde. Londres est représentée en force, en violence dans des tons de rouges et de briques qui contrastent vivement avec la douceur du ciel bleu. Elle est encore plus brutale que les deux autres oeuvres sur le même thème « Sicily, London » et « Public library ».
La peinture est peinte sur une toile avec des collages de papier sur lesquels sont écrits « Lockdown-selfisolation-coronavarus »
Ces papiers maintes fois recouverts ont presque disparu sont les couches successives de peintures, néanmoins on peut en voir un vestige sur la partie gauche du tableau, et on peut voir les traces de papier qui donne à la peinture un aspect irrégulier.
Ce n’est définitivement pas une peinture « légère » et « jolie » , on sent la force, la violence du thème. On n’est plus proche de l’expressionnisme que du figuratif.

Lockdown Harrington gardens: last of the series on lockdown and coronavirus (March-April 2020)

Another example here of the feeling of the painter during this peculiar time in the world: a feeling of oppression, of imprisonment and of violence.

This painting is neither « beautiful » or « light »: it’s a painting of fear, violence and desperation.

The violence of the reds against the light touch of the blue skies gives an idea of enfermement. It’s the idea that we are in self-isolation and beyond that we are facing a future that frightens us.
It’s more an expressionism painting than figurative really.
It’s an expression of a feeling.
some parts of the painting have been covered by bits of paper on which was written: « lockdown self-isolation coronavirus ». the paper has been covered by layers and layers of painting as usual on my work, only a tiny bit of paper still is visible on a left part of the painting.
This bits of paper make the painting rough not smooth on the touch, with rough brush strokes on it.

Lockdown Oxford: Confinement à Oxford


Cette oeuvre est une représentation de la situation de confinement que nous avons vécu en mars avril 2020.
Si l’image de ce musée de « Natural History » à Oxford est belle: un beau musée avec ses poutres d’acier et cette verrière lumineuse;
j’ai choisi de prendre un cadre particulier qui met le spectateur au niveau des poutres et donc de ressentir un effet d’enfermement.
C’est le ressenti du peintre pendant cette période très particulière du coronavirus qui touche le le monde: l’enfermement.

Lockdown Oxford: Natural history museum in Oxford
Even if I choose to represent a beautiful museum in Oxford with one of my favourite theme: architecture, glass and steel beams , with blue and brown colours that are smooth and give a feeling of light at the whole composition

Bur, I also choose a peculiar point of view in the composition of the painting: it looks like the spectator is imprisoned in a series of beams like bars in a prison.
This is the representation of my feelings during that self-isolation period. Waiting behind bars. Yet, this painting is still light and smooth due to the choice of colours that gave a delicate touch.
This painting is not for sale at the moment: planned to be exhibited in the near future…

Lockdown London: tout est à l’arrêt, pendant cette épidémie mondiale de coronavirus, les pays sont en pause, les ouvriers ne finissent pas les chantiers, les peuples sont enfermés dans leur maisons, leurs appartements.

Dans la série de la période « crise sanitaire » de mars-avril 2020: voici le dernier tableau: une interprétation personnelle du confinement: un ressenti d’enfermement.
Comme dans une prison, il y a des barreaux qui sont ici représentés par les échafaudages qui bloquent la lumière du soleil et qui enferment comme double punition les personnes dans leur logement.
Les couleurs sont sombres et néanmoins le soleil arrive à se faire une place entre deux planches de bois. Le soleil représente la liberté, la vie, c’est un symbole d’espoir.
Le pays est à l’arrêt, les chantiers ne sont pas finis. Mon tableau est délibérément « en chantier », le symbole d’un monde à l’arrêt , mais aussi de celui qui reste à venir, la page est blanche et le futur est à reconstruire.

Lockdown London: series on the worldwide health issues, March-April 2020
This series is about the way I see the world during this crisis; the way I feel it during this periode of self-isolation.


Here in London, there is a building waiting for workers to come back and finish the renovation work. But everything has stopped. The world is at a standstill. Besides, people are confined behind their windows. This painting is describing both a feeling of standstill, both a feeling of emprisonnement .

Les ombres planent sur New-York city sur Londres, Paris, Rome…
De Londres à New-York les humains sont enfermés chez eux, derrière les fenêtres de leurs appartements. Ils sont en guerre, c’est une guerre internationale contre un ennemi invisible qui les touche et touche leur famille. Ils sont désemparés, Ils savent pas comment vivre le présent, ne connaissent pas le futur. Le décor est sombre, la ville s’enferme sur elle même, comme les angoissés, les malades et les fragiles qui se calfeutrent dans leur logement. Ce tableau fait partie d’une trilogie sur un New-York plus expressionniste que réaliste, mais celui ci est le plus sombre, il reflète l’état d’esprit du peintre au moment de sa conception.
On voit néanmoins des petits nuages bleus presque incongrus, qui viennent contredire l’atmosphère sombre et gris de ce tableau: est-ce un signe d’espoir, de renouveau?

Shadows are lingering…
It’s a difficult situation we are living in at the moment fighting an invisible virus all other the world. From New-York to Paris, from Berlin to Tokyo everybody is waiting for the end of this crisis.
People are waiting behind their windows, on self isolation, they are afraid of this deadly virus that can touch them and their loves one.
This painting is particularly somber as was my spirit at the time of the work. Living inside, far from friends and family is a very confusing and difficult time. This city in the painting seems to retract on itself to tie the people behind its walls.
It’s not a light, attractive painting but a sad one.

Sicily, London

Sicily est un restaurant situé dans le centre de Londres dans un quartier chic de la capitale britannique.

Ce tableau joue sur les oppositions sociales entre les ouvriers qui fabriquaient les briques et les maisons de ce quartier et les puissants de l’époque victorienne.
Ces oppositions, ce décalage, entre deux mondes se retrouve dans une opposition visuelle : les rouges brique, les aplats de peinture vifs qui caractérisent mon style, les touches successives mais brutes des murs s’opposent au ciel blanc laiteux, presque monochrome et à la rue, que j’ai voulue sobre et vide, dépouillé d’objet et d’humains (période de confinement oblige!)
Les rouges multiples des bâtiments opposés aux monochrome du ciel et de la terre montre la force, la puissance de cette opposition entre deux mondes qui ne se fréquentent pas, ne se connaissent pas.
Il y a dans ce tableau une fausse immobilité qui cache une vraie violence.

Le rouge brique des murs contraste sur le ciel gris, un peu jaunâtre de la ville.
On serait dans une atmosphère victorienne, chez Dickens, s’il n’y avait pas un des fameux « taxis londoniens » au premier plan.
J’ai utilisé du papier en sous couche sur la toile ce qui donne un aspect rugueux au tableau: les murs ne sont pas lisses, on sent des épaisseurs successives. On n’est pas dans un quartier chic, mais dans dans une bibliothèque de quartier ouvrier. (A l’époque, du moins!)
Les coups de pinceaux sont comme d’habitude en épaisseur, la peinture presque utilisée sans eau. On sent bien la matière.
Ce tableau fait partie de la période de « confinement », ce qui explique ces tons rouge et blanc laiteux en contradiction violente; cette absence de personnages: la ville est triste, enfermée sur elle même.

La peinture est recouverte d’un vernis acrylique de protection, qui fait ressortir les couleurs, surtout le rouge particulier des murs de brique. Avec système d’accrochage.

The public library in London is closed (March 2020) like all public houses in UK, France, Italy, Spain, most of USA…
Because I’m not able to travel to my beloved city (London) , I enjoy painting it at home.

We not only travel to London, but back in time, in a Dickens’ book (but for the taxi at the bottom of the painting)!

Les pubs anglais, plus que nos bistrots français sont des institutions au RU.
Ces anglais qui « never surrender » ont plié devant le coronavirus qui touche tous les pays du monde.

For once Britain has surrendered against a vile virus: the Coronavirus.
Since then, like most of the big cities in the world, London is shutting-down to protect its people.
No more social gathering after work, no more friends with whom sharing a glass of wine or some beer.
