La façon dont j’interprète les sujets se retrouve dans le style et les couleurs
Autant Paris sera représenté avec des bleus parfois gris, Londres multicolore, Rome rose ou jaune très brillant, je conçois New-York comme un ensemble de couleurs fades et douces qui s’oppose à la folie de ces buildings les uns sur les autres à la recherche du soleil et du ciel.
Chaque ville a une interprétation propre en fonction de la façon dont je la perçois. Cela se retrouve dans la couleur mais aussi dans le style: avec des petites touches rapides (Londres) des coups de pinceaux plus suggérés, plus expressionnistes (NY) et un style beaucoup plus proche de la réalité photographique (Paris).

NY exuberance, the mix between old and recent buildings, the craziness of the fullness.
Every inches seem to be filled by concrete. The skyscrapers are pushing one another to reach the sky. I love the craziness of this series and the gentle colors that contrast the effect of lack of space. I’ve painted the city like I feel it not like I see it. This is a interpretation of my feeling with quick brushes of painting, the colors are greyish because it’s the way I interpret this city. If you compare with my feeling of London; often brightly coloured here the tones are more subtle.

New-York, de nuit se pare d’or: elle représente les premiers espoirs et les rêves des immigrants du siècle dernier qui pensaient que la ville était « pavée d’or ».
NY brille de mille feux: ici le tableau est presque abstrait, je veux mettre en avant le rêve plutôt que la réalité. Les coups de pinceau sont imprécis, on sent une atmosphère plus qu’on ne la voit;
Les lumières sont très présentes mais les couleurs douces estompent ce qui pourrait donner un effet violent.
Une cire dorée donne un aspect lumineux sur certaines parties.

City of dreams and of hopes: the immigrants of the 19th Century thought that the streets of the city were paved with gold. The city is the first door to the USA and as said the song: « If I can make it there, I can make it anywhere »

Diptych made of two canvas fixed between them by a device at the back of the canvas. The device will be partly remove to send the painting by mail. It will be used again or not if the collector wants to make the two paintings together or separated.

C’est un voyage dans un film, une série TV, c’est l’histoire de l’Amérique, ce sont les portes du rêve américain;
New-York c’est la grandiloquence des « skyscrappers » qui atteignent les étoiles, mais aussi les bruns-orangés des immeubles anciens qui ont fait l’histoire de cette ville.
C’est une foule de personnes qui travaillent, voyagent et vivent sans se croiser. C’est l’anonymat d’une grande ville au parfum vénéneux mais envoûtant. New-York-Gotham city : l’ordre et le désordre, la beauté et la laideur: terre de contrastes.
Ces contrastes sont représentés dans ce tableau par une atmosphère irréelle faite de touches imprécises (dans le bas du tableau) dans un ensemble très réaliste et parfois très précis. La précision, les petits détails représentent la réalité.
Le contraste se fait aussi par les couleurs dans une atmosphère douce mais irréelle.

The craziness of these beautiful and powerful buildings in one of the most beautiful city of the world.
I loved the contrast between old and new skyscrapers.

While I was painting it, I went on a trip in a movie, New-York is the city where you go shopping with Carry Bradshaw, you walk in Manhattan with Hanna and her sisters and close a deal with Gordon Gekko.

Paris, une journée de pluie. Deux touristes prennent un café à terrasse d’une café parisien sur la place de la Madeleine.
L’intérieur du café est brillamment éclairé cependant l’atmosphère est douce et chaleureuse loin du tumulte parisien, des voitures et des travaux.
Les couleurs chaudes adoucissent les couleurs froides du bar et forment un doux contraste.
On est bien dans ce café, on est au chaud, on se sent protégé de la folie extérieure.

One rainy day on Paris, a couple of tourists is having some drink on the terasse of a parisian café.
Although the café is brightly lit inside there is a warm and cosiness atmosphere about it.
You feel comfortable and secure inside, far from the crazy and noisy life outside.
I used the powerful contrast between the warm and cold colors to give a certain atmosphere. I loved this nice café I wanted to keep the feeling of cosiness alive.

Une nuit vénitienne-

Le silence est tombé sur Venise, les gondoles flottent dans la nuit calme, doucement éclairées par la lumière des réverbères.
Au loin, de l’autre coté du canal, la basilique de Santa Maria Salute brille dans la nuit. Des bateaux flottent et un vaporetto emmènent les derniers touristes à la gare.
Une nuit romantique et calme , un voyage dans le temps, un souvenir de vacances que l’on ne veut pas oublier.
Si le sujet est nostalgique et tendre , la forme, le travail de la matière est brut: on peut voir les coups de pinceaux en regardant la toile de près. Comme la plupart des toiles, je travaille dans la matière pas dans la légèreté. La matière est brute, les coups secs, avec utilisation de couteau et de pinceaux, ce qui explique cet amas de matière.

The gondola-Italian boats- are floating on the water dimly lit by lights from the streets
Opposite, on the other part of the « big canal » the Venetian the basilic Santa Maria delle Salute is lit by warm lights that gives an soft and gentle atmosphere

Yet, I used big powerful strokes of painting to make it; the painting is not as smooth as it looks when you look at it closely; lots of different layers of colors have been used to paint it.

I want to give the collector the feeling of a nice warm Mediterranean night, romantic and beautiful. The kind of trip you never forget.

Beyond appearances: London
Londres de nuit avec ses gratte-ciels lumineux, dans le quartier de la City: quartier des affaires, de la bourse de l’argent des échanges commerciaux.
Comme toute grande ville Londres est belle , elle brille de tous ses feux, de ses lumières qui attirent comme les papillons de nuit.

Mais qui y a t-il derrière ces lumières? Ces vies oubliées, ces activités bancaires et commerciales qui laissent des personnes sur le bord du chemin.


Les coups de pinceaux fermes et parfois violents dans la matière donne l’idée de cette violence urbaine et parfois déshumanisée.

La douceur des couleurs pastels permet d’adoucir le contexte et de ne mettre en valeur que la beauté du site.

La peinture est presque dans la matière sans eau. Je joue avec les taches colorées, les traits rapides et vifs, imprécis, pour donner un aspect flou à l’ensemble.

L’atmosphère du tableau pourrait être lourde à cause des empâtements dans la matière et des traits naturellement imprécis. Cependant la luminosité qui provient des oppositions de couleurs et petites touches multicolores donne une atmosphère chaleureuse à l’ensemble.

Le tableau est prêt à accrocher au mur, il est protégé par un vernis acrylique brillant qui fait ressortir l’intensité des couleurs.
Il est daté, signé et délivré avec un certificat d’authenticité et une facture.

Beyond appearances: London

London blue night: The city of London with its skyscrapers , a city always moving, always changing.
« The City » of London: capital of money, banks and traders.
The city is lit by many lights that make it charming, beautiful at night.
This is the first signification of this painting.


So why did I name it: beyond appearances? Because like any other big city, beyond the appearances of lights and beauty there is another reality: abandonned homeless in the streets, money makers that rule the world, injustice and unfairness… The beauty and the beast in one picture.

I used lots of painting without much water: I wanted the effect rough, the painting brushstrokes are clearly visible: They represent the violence of the city, the noise, the lights, and yet soften by the light and warm colors.

Cette ville éternelle qui représente notre passé s’enveloppe de nuages. Il s’agit d’une peinture de figuration libre, mais symbolique.
Cette peinture représente notre passé (Rome éternelle) notre présent ;le ciel bleu; le futur: les nuages.
C’est un message symbolique et politique d’une époque troublée par l’arrivée de nuages qui assombrissent le ciel et pourtant des nuances de roses, de mauve, de tons orangés apaisent la situation: on peut y voir ici l’idée que les choses ne sont pas définies, qu’il y a de l’espoir.Roma furiosa: Rome se consume de chaleur, de passion; les ancêtres de l’antiquité sont passés, emportant avec eux les secrets d’une ville qui se développe au delà de son continent pour se transformer en ruines quelques 2000 ans après.
L’histoire se répète, les hommes font les mêmes erreurs… Leurs passions, le pouvoir après quoi ils courent leur font oublier l’essentiel.

Ce que vous voyez n’est pas qu’une paire de baskets.
Ce sont des baskets qui hésitent : dois-je continuer mon chemin ou dois-je m’arrêter là ? D’où le titre du tableau: Brexit
Dans la vie nous nous sommes tous posés cette question : qu’est-ce que je fais de mon chemin maintenant ?
J’ai pris ici le symbole de la Grande Bretagne avec ce drapeau symbole de l’unité des régions ; de l’unité, il n’y en a plus : le pays est divisé par un choix politique et économique. Cette paire de chaussures semble hésiter aussi.

Le tableau est protégé par un vernis acrylique brillant qui fait ressortir les couleurs. Les cotés sont peints en orange et marron: pas besoin de cadre. Prêt à accrocher.

What you see is not only a pair of sneakers; it’s a symbol.
A political symbol of a situation that doesn’t move, not really. This pair of shoes hesitates: should I Stay or should I go?
Should I continue to move forward or should I stop now.
The brown color can be interpreted as some borders between the countries. Borders that people make to protect themselves. Borders that stop people to meet, to understand each other.
