Sous un ciel éclatant, un petit groupe d’étudiants partage un moment de complicité sur les pelouses de St John’s College à Cambridge. Derniers jours d’examens, premiers pique-niques d’été : l’instant capturé évoque la fin d’un cycle, empreint de douceur, d’espoir et de souvenirs futurs.
Je m’inspire ici du fauvisme contemporain, avec des couleurs franches, saturées, et une lumière presque irréelle. Le style naïf et stylisé des personnages contraste avec la majesté architecturale du collège gothique en arrière-plan. Les formes sont simplifiées, la perspective est volontairement aplatie, conférant à la scène un aspect presque théâtral.
Des influences de David Hockney, Raoul Dufy, et même d’une certaine esthétique pop se devinent dans le traitement graphique, joyeux et lumineux. Les ombres de l’arbre au premier plan encadrent la scène comme une fenêtre sur un souvenir précieux.
Protégé par un vernis brillant, le tableau est peint sur les côtés et prêt à être accroché.

Under a radiant sky, a small group of students share a moment of connection on the lawns of St John’s College, Cambridge. These are the last days of exams, the first summer picnics — a suspended moment that evokes the bittersweet transition between seasons of life, between youth and the unknown future.
I draw from contemporary fauvism, using bold, saturated colors and an almost dreamlike brightness. The naïve, stylized rendering of the figures contrasts with the majestic Gothic architecture of the college in the background. The flattened perspective and simplified shapes lend the scene a theatrical, almost stage-like quality.
Echoes of David Hockney, Raoul Dufy, and even elements of pop art are present in the joyful, graphic style. The shaded tree leaves in the foreground act like a natural frame, inviting the viewer to look through — as if into a cherished memory.
The painting is protected with a glossy varnish. The sides are painted and it is ready to hang.
