Le Printemps à Notting Hill.

Souvenir de période heureuse, d’un printemps qui revient quelques soient les évènements. Il faut de la couleur, des bulles de champagne et de la couleur pour se sentir vivre. Il faut alléger l’atmosphère, se replonger dans les vieux vinyles des seventies pour surmonter les difficultés et supporter un futur incertain.

Ce tableau est peint pendant la période Covid mais celui-là est joyeux, gai avec des couleurs en camaïeux, à la fois doux et pétillants. Les aplats de peinture acrylique sont légers, les lignes indéfinies, voire, en suspension…

Le tableau est prêt à accrocher au mur, il est protégé par un vernis acrylique brillant qui fait ressortir l’intensité des couleurs.

Cette œuvre représente un quartier bourgeois du sud de Londres, avec ses maisons individuelles élégantes et chics.

On est loin de l’image que l’on se fait d’une capitale européenne, on on l’impression d’être dans une ville de province, dans un quartier calme te propre, respectable.

Néanmoins, cette impression tranquille d’un jour d’hiver est mélancolique : les camaïeux de gris et le ciel monochrome nous font ressentir ce froid et cette solitude hivernale. Les quelques couleurs plus chaudes des maisons du premier plan n’arrivent pas à égayer cette mélancolie tant leurs teintes sont trop diffuses pour apporter de la joie.

This painting represents a chic area in south London, with its elegant individual houses.

It’s not the image that we expect from a big city, rather the idea of a bourgeois town on a coast.

We feel confortable and at ease walking in this area, calm, quiet and clean in the immobility of a winter day.

Nevertheless a camaïeu of grey and the monochrome colours of the sky give an impression of melancholia, we can feel the cold and solitude of a winter day.

Even the touches of colour on the first houses don’t break this melancholia as they are too diffuse to bring some joy.

The pictural touch is quick and vague ; it’s not a copy of a place but the atmosphere of it that I wanted to paint.

Dernière toile de la série des intérieurs. Dernière toile qui conclue l’année 2020. De la douceur, des couleurs chaudes un parfum chocolaté pour se protéger de la tristesse ambiante. Cette série d’intérieurs a pour but de trouver de la chaleur et du réconfort pendant une période difficile.
Le sujet est « le rayon confiserie » du grand magasin Harrods à Londres.
Un magasin très réputé, chic et dont l’intérieur, spécialement la partie « cuisine » est de toute beauté.
Petit clin d’œil aussi pour ce dernier mois de l’année 2020 à nos amis britanniques, dans le contexte politique que l’on connaît.

Harrods is one of the most beautiful store in London;
This paintings represents the confectionery shop where you find chocolate, sweets and other food delicacy.
I wanted to end the 2020 year with a warm and cosy atmosphere, a reminder of something nice and delicious.
You forget about everything when you are in such a beautiful store. The « interiors series » is about the warmth and comfort we need especially in time of difficulties like 2020. And what better that a piece of chocolate to find comfort!

On déjeune avec Harry Potter, on échange avec Lewis Carroll, ancien élève de cette université (l’auteur d’Alice au pays des merveilles) …

Il s’agit du dernier tableau de de la série sur Christ Church College

Encore une fois pendant cette période de deuxième confinement, de confusion et de craintes pour l’avenir proche, je voulais traduire dans ma peinture un sentiment de douceur, de chaleur et de lumière. Le souvenir d’un moment passé à Christ church College, une des magnifiques universités d’Oxford.

Cette douceur est traduite par l’opposition entre les couleurs douces et les lumières tamisées des lampes sur les tables et celle plus froides des murs. Ces murs, solennels sont éclairés par les portraits des précédentes figures de l’université : les anciens directeurs, les personnages célèbres : Henry VIII ; Elisabeth I ; Charles Dowson (Lewis carroll)…

The last from the series (Oxford College)

With this last painting, I wanted to convey an idea of warmth and cosiness in a surrounding world, confusing and scary. The memory of a nice time in Oxford at Christ Church College one of the most beautiful College in Oxford.

The softened lights from the tables lamps give an atmosphere of cosiness, at this breakfast time. You are safe here, surrounded by famous portraits from former Queen lisabeth I and King Henri VIII, famous people and former Deans of the College.

Dans la série des « intérieurs » cette cantine de l’université nous amène dans un autre monde, une autre époque.

On déjeune avec Harry Potter, on échange avec Lewis Carroll, ancien élève de cette université (l’auteur d’Alice au pays des merveilles) …

J’ai choisi de peindre ce lieu majestueux pour sa beauté et pour ce côté hors du temps.

Encore une fois, le symbole du rêve est en première place dans ma peinture.

Loin du monde, loin de son tumulte, en pleine épidémie de coronavirus alors que de nombreux habitants de la planète sont confinés, j’ai voulu peindre de la douceur, du calme et un sentiment de protection.

Pour cela, j’ai utilisé des tons doux, une palette de bruns orangés, qui contrastent avec les bruns sombres des coins de la pièce. La patte artistique est plus légère, les touches sont douces et s’ajoutent aux aplats des fonds.

Je veux donner une atmosphère de douceur, de calme et de paix. Ce tableau est un voyage au pays de l’imaginaire.

This is Christ Church’s college dining room in Oxford.

This dining hall has inspired Harry Potter movies. Hogwarts Hall was created after this dining room in a studio.
Christ Church is also the place where Lewis Carroll, author of Alice in Wonderland studied.

Whatever this crazy world, the Lockdown, the health crisis and the brutality of life, I wanted to provide some gentle work to make you feel cozy, warm and protected… This is the point of this new series of interiors paintings.

I’m looking for some cozy, comfortable atmosphere to make life nicer, far from the crazy world.
I use gentle colours, made of brown-orange-yellow paint added to darker ones.
The brush touches are lighter than usual; it’s part of the process.
I want the people to feel good with it. To feel at ease and secure.

Le salon de beauté de la boutique « Liberty » à Londres

Dans une période triste et angoissante comme celle que nous vivons au moment de la création de cette peinture (2eme confinement : nov. 2020) ;

J’ai voulu travailler à nouveau sur le thème des magasins et petits commerces ; sur un ton délicat, doux et apaisant.

Il s’agit ici de la représentation d’un salon de beauté à Londres, qui fait le pendant du tableau « Barber shop ».

On ressent une atmosphère de calme, de douceur et de protection dans cette boutique. Les couleurs douces, les aplats non définis donnent une atmosphère d’irréalité, comme un rêve bienveillant et chaleureux.

Ces aplats doux permettent d’adoucir les marques brusques de mes coups de pinceaux, propres à mon style artistique.

Because we all need to cheer up a little, especially at times like the ones we’re living in, I did this painting on the second lockdown in France, nov. 2020.

I needed to cheer myself up, to forget about the gloomy days ahead of us, health problems, economic problems.

After having paint the « Barber shop », this « beauty shop » is another painting in the series : shops and businesses. It represents the warm and cosy atmosphere of a beauty parlour, in London, with perfumes in the air and warm lights. It’s a protected spot, a place in which one’s feel good. It’s a place of comfort, a protected womb against the harsh reality of life.

The Colours are soft and delicate to express a feeling of warm and coziness, the quick brush strokes that are my artistic signature are surrounded by the gentle flat tints to appease the whole painting.

The barber shop -SOLD

Plus que le sujet proprement dit, j’ai voulu vraiment focaliser sur l’atmosphère et sur le jeu des couleurs.
On est chez un barbier à Londres, un lieu à l’ambiance sobre et douce ; un peu chic mais d’un chic élégant, avec un parquet en bois et des tapis brodés.
J’ai voulu restituer cette atmosphère délicate mais un peu masculine et j’ai joué pour cela entre la douceur des bois et des lumières, des rampes lumineuses comme les salles de maquillage au théâtre ; et des touches bleutées en opposition ; d’un bleu grisé. C’est une masculinité tendre, comme un rappel à nos cotés masculins-féminins.
Dans un monde où beaucoup s’opposent, j’ai voulu apaiser dans cette atmosphère douce, le masculin et le féminin, mélanger le rose et le bleu comme un symbole de réunion et non d’opposition.

Urban scenes: the interior of a chic and cosy barber shop in London.
I used the pink and bleu-grey colors as a way to express the duality in each of us: a little bit of male and female in each of us. In a society where the confrontation is hard between people, between the men and the women I wanted to express this duality by the atmosphere of the painting, by the colours.
We are in a man world: the barber shop, however the atmosphere is warm and cosy, the lights give a feeling of calm and peace.

Un peu de couleurs et de chaleur pour commencer une nouvelle saison d’automne…
Londres est un sujet d’inspiration sans fin pour moi.
Série sur les grands magasins dont j’admire les couleurs, les agencements très proche de la décoration. Admirative aussi de ces architectures art-déco qui rehaussent par leur faience colorées les vitrines et les étalages.
J’ai eu un grand plaisir à peindre ce magasin et cet emplacement, à mélanger ces couleurs vives et les couleurs plus douces des murs et de la décoration du plafond ; de style art-déco.

« The floral shop; Harrods »

Harrods, one of the oldest and most beautiful store in London.
The place inside and the building outside are stunning.
I love having a walk there whenever I have the chance.
The beauty of the art-deco style mixed with the colours inside: here the floral shop, there a fish hall or a confiserie hall… It’s a ravishing experience for all the senses.
It was such a pleasure to come back in spirit to this beautiful place, I enjoyed playing with the colours as I mixed warm colours from the flowers with dark colours from the walls in a way that enhanced the warm of the bright colours.
