« Orage et palmiers fous »

Les palmiers fous se balancent dans le ciel, l’orage approche et le vent balaie les branches qui se reflètent dans la piscine.

Les habitants sont partis se refugier en on laissé les fauteuils de jardin auprès de la piscine.

C’est une scène à la fois réaliste et irréelle. Réaliste par cette piscine, cette maison et ce ciel peu engageant ;

Irréelle par la touche colorée des palmiers rouges qui se balancent.

J’aime ces palmiers fous avec leur longues pattes comme des animaux ; ils sont à la fois le symbole de la fragilité de leurs grandes tailles et de la force qu’ils ont en eux pour supporter le vent qui les décoiffent. A la fois humains, à la fois animaux, ils représentent nos fragilités, notre force face à l’adversité.

The crazy palm trees are moving in the stormy weather. The shadows of their branches are reflecting in the swimming pool. The storm is approaching, the humans beings have left the swimming pool and the deck chairs behind them to go into the house.

This painting is realistic yet not really. The sky, the swimming pool and the house and real, the palm trees with their bright red colours are not.

It’s a boundary between dream and reality. I love the crazy palm trees, colourful and bright with their long legs like animals.

They are the symbol of fragility with their long legs bending with the wind, and the strength to stand up in the adversity. Animals, humans, they represent our fragility and our strength in front of the difficult times of life. The painting is painted on the sides; it’s protected by a bright acrylic varnish, ready to hang on a wall.

Saint Pancras; station de train à Londres: les arrivées.

Pour moi Saint Pancras représente la porte de Londres et du Royaume Uni.

Mais pas seulement, c’est aussi une histoire d’amour avec cette capitale. Histoire qui a commencé lorsque j’avais 18 ans. C’était le premier pays étranger que je visitais, la première fois que je prenais l’avion (pas encore d’Eurostar à cette époque).

C’est le premier pays étranger que j’ai fait découvrir à mon futur mari et plus tard à mes enfants.

Ce tableau représente donc ce lien que j’entretiens avec cette ville, avec ce pays dont je me sens proche sans avoir de liens familiers avec.

It’s not only the story of people arriving from the continent in London. It’s above all a love story.

The love story that I started when I was 18, on my first trip in a foreign country, my first trip on a plane. (There was no Eurostar at that time).

The first foreign country that I shared with my future husband and then my children.

This painting represents the link I feel with this country curiously although I have got no family there.

Ellis Island, les portes de l’Amérique.

Maintenant rénové, ce monument situé sur l’île d’Ellis, en face de New-York a vu passer de nombreuses familles européennes qui venaient en Amérique pour fuir la pauvreté, les persécutions religieuses, …

Des jeunes, des vieux, qui quittaient leur famille, leurs amis pour se construire une vie meilleure. Ils étaient courageux de tout quitter, de braver la mer, la promiscuité sur le bateau, le langage et la culture de cette nouvelle terre.

Ce tableau est un hommage à tous ces immigrants qui ont façonnés les Etats-Unis.

Et comme l’histoire se répète… ce tableau parle à la fois du passé, mais aussi du présent et du futur.

Le tableau par ses couleurs chaudes et gaies représente un nouveau départ, un avenir meilleur. Cependant certains d’entre eux ne passeront pas la porte promise après les tests et repartiront en Europe.

Le style pictural est rapide, dynamique et audacieux. Il est fait de couches successives, rapides. Le tableau est fait de petites touches de couleur pour lui donner un dynamisme, on est dans une « impression », je ne cherche pas la réalité mais une atmosphère.

Le tableau est prêt à accrocher au mur, il est protégé par un vernis acrylique brillant qui fait ressortir l’intensité des couleurs, les bords sont protégés par un ruban blanc.

Ellis Island, the doors of the USA
Now nicely renovated, this building situated on an island facing New-York seen so many migrants fleeing the poverty, the religious persecution in Europe.
They came young, old, with family and friends to reach the promised land of hope and wealth!
They were brave to face the water, the promiscuity on a ship, the barrier of the language, a new country. Leaving behind their friends and family.
This painting is a tribute to these brave people who shape the USA.
As history repeats itself…, this painting speaks for the past, but also the present and the future.

The painting is cheerful with bright colours, it represents a new beginning for the people coming to America.

Yet, some of them, after many tests, wouldn’t be accepted and they were sent back to their country in Europe.

My painting is made of thousands of multi-coloured touches of paint, sometimes imperceptible: these little impressionism touches give the painting an atmosphere. I don’t want to make it realistic.

Une lumière dans la nuit de banlieue parisienne: le restaurant. Ce restaurant pourrait être dans une banlieue française, ou un « diner » aux Etats-Unis. C’est le symbole de la nuit, pour les voyageurs, les routiers, les amoureux, les travailleurs. Un repas au chaud, un dernier verre.

C’est un voyage en voiture dans la nuit, lorsque les lumières des immeubles, des lampes et des commerces se confondent dans la nuit. Il y a à la fois de la beauté et de la laideur dans ces banlieues impersonnelles que l’on traversent.

Ce tableau est un hommage à ces personnes qui travaillent lorsque les autres sont au repos: ces serveurs et serveuses, ces plongeurs…

A light in the night of impersonnal suburbs. It could be anywhere in the world : a diner in the USA, a restaurant on the road in France. It’s a symbol of the night: for travellers, truck drivers, lovers, workers. A last meal at night, the last drink.

There is some beauty and sadness about these places. It’s a trip in a car when the lights of the buildings, shops and restaurants mix together to make a blurry effect.

This painting is a tribute to these workers who work when other people are at rest: waiters and waitresses, cuisine people…

New-York quartier de Chinatown, comme une lumière dans la nuit qui nous conduit vers ce centre religieux, cette congrégation comme il y en a des milliers aux Etats-Unis.

Tout le monde peut y créer sa religion, « Dieu » est présent dans la constitution , lors du discours d’intronisation du nouveau président, sur les billets de banque.

Il n’est pas précisé quel Dieu ! Celui des arbres et des plantes, le Dieu Chrétien, un des Dieux indiens ?

Cette lumière dans la nuit est un symbole, pas seulement une lumière réelle mais celle d’un lieu qui rassemble des personnes pour partager quelque chose, un peu d’espoir et de chaleur, un lien entre des personnes qui partagent les mêmes valeurs.

Ici encore il n’y a pas de personnages dans le tableau, mais pour moi c’est une évidence ; ce sont les personnages qui sont centraux dans cette œuvre ; ceux que l’on devine derrière les murs. Hommage à toutes ces personnes engagées bénévolement par une passion, qu’elle soit religieuse, sociale, artistique ou politique.

A light in the night: New-York; Chinatown

This is not a religious painting. “God” is part of America, whether on the bank notes, on the constitution of the first speech of intronization of the president of the states.

Whatever the God, the Christian one, the protestant one, the Indian one? Everybody can create its’ one church.

This light leads the people towards a place where they gather to find something; its is hope, warm and comfort, the proximity of someone sharing the same ideas, the same values.

Still now there is no characters in the painting, and yet there are the central figure of it; It’s a tribute to the people working voluntarily for a cause, whether religious, artistic, political of social.

La librairie est décidemment un endroit magique à conserver dans les villes ; à protéger.

La lecture est une évasion, ce thème revient dans mes peintures comme un symbole.

Ce tableau fait partie d’une série de quatre sur le thème du voyage en train.

Les tableaux peuvent être séparés.

Ces tableaux montrent un voyage en train, de Penn Station à New-York en direction de Washington. Je voulais donner cette impression que l’on a, lors d’un voyage en train, lorsque les yeux n’ont pas le temps de se focaliser sur un élément du décor, qu’un autre a déjà pris sa place.

J’ai peint cette série comme une suite vidéo avec des éléments qui se suivent dans les quatre tableaux, comme un lien. (Les couleurs, les nuages).

Ces tableaux représentent des petites villes de banlieue, avec leurs usines désaffectées, leurs maisons en bois qui se ressemblent. On est loin de la grandeur et de la richesse de Manhattan. Loin des rues pavées d’or de l’Amérique.

Le tableau n°4 représente des maisons en bois, identiques, symbole typiquement américain, au milieu de la campagne du New Jersey. Une usine peut-être désaffectée complète le décor. L’histoire que je montre avec ces tableaux est celle d’une Amérique de contrastes, pas celle que l’on voit à la télévision ou dans les films. La vraie Amérique, loin de l’image des rues pavées d’or.

Le style est figuratif mais impressionniste, je montre une atmosphère, pas une représentation photographique de la réalité. .

The Other Art Fair London March 2023

This painting is part of a series of four paintings that follow one another.

These paintings depict a train journey from New-York to Washington.

I wanted to convey the feeling of a journey by train, when the scenery goes by in front of your eyes but you don’t have time to focus on an image, another one has already taken its place.

I painted them to look like a video, with some elements reproduced in the four paintings.

The clouds go from one painting to another, the train tracks from painting 2 and 3 follow the same rule.

The Part-4- depicts a derelict factory in the middle of the Jersey landscape in the background. In the foreground some little similar wooden houses symbo of the USA. The whole series I want to show is a story about the current USA, far from the « golden paved streets », a real America made of contrasts.

The style is still figurative but impressionist; I want to show an atmosphere not a photograph of a place.

These paintings are independent but there are made to be side by side at an exhibition.

Ville de Bath, en Angleterre où Jane Austen venait en vacances. C’est une interprétation audacieuse de la ville tranquille de Bath, avec des palmiers qui n’existent pas en vrai mais qui ajoute une touche d’exubérance, de joie et de soleil dans un environnement architectural superbe mais un peu répétitif.

Cette joie, cette passion sont soulignées par les couleurs Crimson et Magenta vif (Vif Magenta élue couleur Pantone année 2023).

Le style est impressionniste mais tient un peu des couleurs et de l’exubérance non conventionnelle du mouvement « fauve ».

C’est un rêve qui nous permet d’oublier le monde qui nous entoure, avec ses problèmes, ses guerres et cette angoisse écologique pour demain.

Laissons-nous rêver encore un peu devant un tableau passionné et joyeux, ensoleillé et non conventionnel.

From the city of Bath, UK, where Jane Austen used to come on holidays. It’s a bold a free interpretation of the characteristic architecture of the « circle » in Bath. The palm trees, crimson and magenta are not real of course, they add some bright, passion and exuberance to a somewhat beautiful but a little repetitive architecture.

The style is impressionist with the craziness of the « Fauvism », the bright colours, the passion of the red-magenta and crimson (selected Pantone of Year 2023).

Let’s feel the joy and exuberance from the colours, from the summer trees.

Let’s dream of a better future for all. Forget a little about all the problems, wars, environment issues , just for a while when looking at this painting.
